New Forrestor report on Informix and ROI

Few companies have a meaningful way to measure the value of IT and IT projects before making an investment. Technology providers frequently talk about features and functions but sometimes forget to help potential clients understand benefits.

Fans,

Let me take this opportunity to ramble on a few areas:

The Total Economic inpact of Informix

A new report is now available on the economic impact of using Informix. The study is based on a large international retailer with over 4,000 instances of Informix.

The report concludes that over a three year period, the retailer saved over $1 million dollars. The study was done in May 2010. I am convinced it would be even better if they were to do it again with Panther. You can find the report at:

Enjoy.

SQLTRACE and improving your SQL

So have you ever wanted to have an easy way to know how long you SQL waited on I/O? What about the actually number of sequential scans for an individual query? How about the average execution time of a query without running a script and using time() or timex() as part of the equation. I know I have. And until We got to informix 11.10 and above, we didn't have that opportunity, at least not natively.

Informix Analyst reports

In case you had not heard there are two new analyst reports out on Informix - one from ITG and the other from Forrester.  Both these reports are very favorable to Informix and I encourage you to read them.  The ITG report compares the cost of Informix over time compared to SQL server and concludes that Informix is by far the less expensive of the two, about 1/3 less in fact.  The ITG report can be found here:  ITG report

The Forrester report focuses on the cost of Inf
