IIUG, two new Informix blogs, and baseball

The International Informix User Group (IIUG) conference ended on Wednesday, followed by a well attended Customer Advisory Council meeting on Thursday.

It was a good conference and I'm looking forward to being able to download the conference material from the website. As usual I didn't make it to many sessions except ones I had to moderate. This at least enabled me to catch up on the work Informix has been doing with VMware on performance best practices in a presentation by Sreeni Paidi from IBM and Robert Campbell, a VMware technologist.

IIUG 2010: Wednesday

The day started with a Q&A with IBM excutives: Alys Passarelli, Inhi Cho Suh and Rob Thomas. There were a number of good questions and it was an opportunity for the excutives to state their commitment to Informix and describe many of the efforts in progress.

Once again, a good mix of sessions on subjects from customer case studies, database administration, security, best practices, and use of tools such as Eclipse.

The day ended at 4:30 after the delivery of 25 sessions.

This was a great conference with lots of good information and fantatic networking.

dbdelete in python

At the 2010 IIUG Informix conference Nick Geib from IBM and I did a technical session on python and Informix. One of the examples we gave of how an Informix DBA can leverage python to make his or her life easier was a dbdelete utility, a simple python script that can be used to delete a large amount of data without causing a long transaction, excessive locks and can run some onstats during the delete to determine if we should stop deleting for a little while because it is impacting performance.

After the IIUG Conference

Just a quick word:

The International Informix Users' Group Conference for 2010 is over. The members of the IIUG Board of Directors are winding down and catching our breath. I'm posting my first ever Blog posting to this my new blog. It's weird.

IIUG 2010 conference: 3rd and last day

Well, all good things must come to an end, and the 2010 IIUG conference is no exception.

IIUG 2010 wrapup

Apologize for not dropping a note yesterday but was busy attending sessions, meeting customers and soaking the great IIUG hospitality. The conference is wrapping up w/ the last round of sessions underway. The only thing left is the Customer Advisory Council scheduled for Thursday. Several of us were sad to see the conference come to an end. It was a quick 3 days and just felt like time flew. New Informix friends and partnership was developed over the past 3 days. The networking is one of the greatest advantages to come to this conference and we get to meet some die hard Informix fans.
